Cops search for bandits in Bhagwansingh break-in

Nalinee Seelal

Police officers from the Northern Division are searching for eight men believed to be members of a gang who broke into the Churchill Roosevelt Highway and Golden Grove Road branch of Bhagwansingh’s Hardware between Sunday and early Monday and escaped with over $175,00 in cash and a quantity of power tools.

The break-in and larceny was only discovered on Monday when a manager of the branch reported for duty and discovered a door leading to a vault inside the hardware forced open and a vault containing the cash cut open. A further check revealed that a number of weed whackers, grinders and drills were missing. Officers of the Arouca police station, led by ASP Mervyn Edwards and including Sgt Almond and others, visited the scene and interviewed staff. Surveillance footage from the hardware revealed that eight persons were seen running away from the hardware following the incident.

Investigators later discovered that the offenders entered the building through a drain and then opening a gate at the back of the hardware.

Although security guards were on duty, the suspects were able to go undetected.

Investigators believe that with the assistance from their colleagues at the Police Cyber Crime Unit they may be able to use the footage on the surveillance cameras to identify some of the suspects.

Investigations are continuing.
