Police find guns, ammo in Northern Division

Two men were arrested and two firearms found and seized during a police exercise executed by officers of the Northern Division Police Service.

According to reports, officers were conducting an exercise between 1 am and 2 pm on Tuesday, when they had cause to stop and search a vehicle with two male occupants – a 19-year-old man of Orange Grove Trace, St Augustine, and an 18-year-old man of Helping Hand ground, St Augustine– on Centenary Street Extension, Tunapuna. During the search, they found a pistol and five rounds of ammunition and arrested the two men. The same officers received information which led them to some bushes in La Pastora, Lopinot, where they found a Remington 12-gauge shotgun under some galvanize sheets. No arrests were made in connection to that find.

In another exercise in Valencia, police officers also found a pistol of unknown model.

Reports indicate that during an exercise in the area between 8.45 am and 2.20 pm on Tuesday, police officers received information which led them to a bushy area off the Cumaca Road, Valencia, where they found a black plastic bag between the roots of a mango tree. When they opened the bag they found 16 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition.

The officers then went to Jamoon Drive, Valencia, where they searched under a pile of debris and found a pistol.

No arrests were made in connection to these finds. The weapons were said to have been taken to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for forensic and ballistic testing.
