Father inconsolable after daughter’s death

A Valencia man who accidentally crushed his baby daughter to death while reversing his vehicle from the yard of his house on Sunday, will receive counselling as he struggles to cope with the tragedy.

Joel Mansoor was left distraught after viewing the body of his 18-month old daughter Ilena at the Forensic Science Centre in St James on Monday. He was consoled by his wife as they stood outside the Centre awaiting the results of an autopsy.

On Sunday at 9.50 am, Mansoor was reversing his vehicle from his yard when he heard a noise and on checking, discovered his daughter under the vehicle. The child was rushed to the Valencia Health Centre where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Relatives said the door of their house was left open by a 15-year-old relative which resulted in Ilena going out into the yard on hearing the sound of her father’s car being started.

Mansoor had to be sedated on Sunday following his daughter’s death. Police are treating the death as accidental and officers of the Eastern division have offered counselling to the entire Mansoor family in their time of grief.
