Suspect in rape, attempted murder held

A 27-year-old D’Abadie man who abducted an 18-year-old woman last Wednesday, sexually assaulted her and then threw her over a precipice was detained by Maloney police on Sunday evening.

The suspect was being questioned up until late yesterday and his accomplice a woman in her 20s is also expected to be detained shortly. On Wednesday last, the victim left her home and went to Red Hill, D’Abadie at 4.30 pm when she was ordered into a car driven by the suspect.

Another woman was seated in the front passenger seat. The victim told police she was taken to Las Lomas where she was sexually assaulted by the man and woman. She was also taken to Aripo where the rape acts were again committed.

The victim was then thrown over a precipice and left for dead. She later climbed out and alerted a passer-by who took her to the Maloney police station. On Sunday officers received information on the whereabouts of the suspect and detained him. He is expected to be placed on an identification parade today.
