3 bandits shot dead

UPDATED 11:00 pm:

Three bandits who went to rob a furniture store at Dino Street off Soogrim Trace in Cunupia yesterday, were shot dead minutes after they fled the scene.

According to police, shortly after 5 pm, Subratee Mohammed who owns the furniture store was at his business place when four men barged in and announced a hold-up.

Mohammed was robbed of cash, a cellphone and jewelry. As the bandits fled, Mohammed alerted Central Division police and officers went to a swampy area in Egypt Trace, Enterprise during their search for the bandits.

As the officers came upon the three bandits, a shootout ensued following which, the bandits were found bleeding in the bushes.

All three were taken to the Chaguanas Health Centre where they were all pronounced dead on arrival. A fourth suspect managed to escape. A pistol and several rounds of ammunition were found at the scene.

None of the stolen items were recovered and up to press time, parts of Enterprise remained under police lockdown in an effort to flush out the suspect.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Surujdean Persad commended the officers for their swift response.

ACP Persad along with other senior officers were at the scene of the shooting as investigations were ongoing.
