Mother of drive-by victim: I'm relieved that he is dead

UPDATED 9/10, 9:20 pm

Charmaine McComb, the mother of murder victim Isaiah McComb, 25, claims her son was the victim of attacks from police throughout his adult life and expressed relief at his death, saying that at the very least, he can no longer be victimised by officers.

Newsday spoke with McComb at the Forensic Science Centre in St James yesterday said while her son might have been involved in illegal activities, she was left deeply distraught by his murder.

“My son was no saint, but he did not deserve what happened to him. He was a very jovial, respectful young man. He did not deserve to die like this. They shot him in his foot so he wouldn’t run away and then they sprayed him with shots all over his body.”

According to reports at about 10 pm on Friday, Isaiah was liming at a street corner in Morvant when a black Nissan X-Trail SUV drove up to him and the occupants shot him several times.

Isaiah was unemployed and had been arrested several times for a variety of offences.

Officers of the Homicide Investigations Bureau (Region I) are continuing investigations.
