A special Gusto Champion Shoe – a sneaker in light and dark grey with bright pink accents – is one of two items being sold at all Payless ShoeSource stores to mark the ninth annual Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) campaign. The other is the Payless Designer Bracelet, which this year has the word “love” in silver on a pink band. These limited-edition items are available at Payless until October 31, with all proceeds going to the Cancer Society.

The society’s vice chairman, Dr Jacqueline Pereira Sabga, described it as a privilege to have worked with Payless for the past eight years to spread the word about the value of cancer screenings and early detection, saying the funds generated from the sale of Payless bracelets and sneakers makes “a remarkable impact on Vitas House Hospice, where we care for terminally ill patients with cancer.

“This service is free to all patients,” she explained. “So when incredible organisations like Payless lend support like this, in both monetary contribution, and to raise awareness, there are no words to express the deep sense of gratitude I feel. On behalf of the TTCS, I would again like to applaud and thank Payless for their continued support.”

General manager of Payless TT Jerus Mohammed also spoke about the 2017 BCA campaign. He said while the company is “all about offering the women of TT affordable, stylish shoes, (it is) also focused on impacting positively on the lives of our customers.

“Over the years, we have developed a very intimate relationship with Vitas House, and we look forward to going on the road with them every October to help spread the message about the importance of early detection.”
