Less for cops in 2018 budget

Expenditure for the Police Service has been reduced from $2,553,874,800 in 2017 to $2,285,980,100. These figures are contained in the 2018 Draft Estimates of Recurrent Expenditure which was laid in Parliament on Monday. Within these figures, there is also a decrease in compensation paid to the estates of members of the protective services who die in the line of duty. According to the document, this figure has decreased from $4 million in 2017 to $3 million in 2018.

The document also shows a decrease in the expenditure salaries and cost of living allowance for police officers from $1,272,500 in 2017 to $ $1,140,000 in 2018. Overtime for monthly paid officers has decreased from $392 million to $300,000. The overtime for daily rated workers however has increased from $500,000 in 2017 to $1 million in 2018.

There was also an increase in expenditure for uniforms from $3,500,000 to $8,000,000. Travelling and subsistence increased from 17,500,000 to $20,000,000. There was also an increase in expenditure for the TT Police Academy from $10 million to $12 million.
