TTCB mourns passing of Clive Pantin

The Trinidad and Tobago Cricket Board (TTCB) joins the rest of the national community in mourning the passing of educator Clive Pantin.

The former Minister of Education and a leading member of the well-known Pantin family passed away peacefully last Friday.

“The nation has lost someone who made an indelible contribution to its development in the selfless and altruistic manner that has been the hallmark of the Pantins over the years,” said president of the TTCB Azim Bassarath.

He said Pantin, who also was a former principal of Fatima College in Mucurapo, embodied praiseworthy characteristics in his every endeavour, and Trinidad and Tobago is poorer after his loss.

Bassarath noted that Pantin also played a major role in the development of Fatima College’s excellent youth cricket programme of which Brian Lara is its most illustrious product.

Lara attended Fatima College and rose to become arguably the greatest batsman to play the game, and also captained TT and the West Indies.

“Pantin was noted for the unobstrusive way of getting things done. He was disciplined and noted for his honesty and a willingness to come to a consensus by listening to all sides of the debate,” Bassarath said.

Pantin played both cricket and football as a youngster and was a mouthpiece for the disadvantaged and underprivileged in society over the years.

“The TTCB and the entire cricket community extends its deepest condolences to the Pantin family on their loss, but is assured that the legacy that he left in education, sport and politics will live on and act as a guideline to follow for future generations,” said Bassarath.
