Children's Authority visits mother

Officials from the Children’s Authority yesterday met with the mother who, together with her 12-year-old daughter, were brutally stabbed two weeks ago at their home at San Fernando.

The visit came the same day Newsday published an article in which worried mother pleaded with the authorities to provide the traumatised family with counselling and housing accommodations.

The male relative, 35, who committed the brutal act was cremated yesterday at the Shore of Peace Cremation Site at La Romaine, following a service at the home of relatives in Barrackpore.

He stabbed the mother and the girl on September 20 after they reported to police he was sexually abusing the child.

He died on Wednesday last at the San Fernando General Hospital after injesting a poisonous substance.

According to the mother, the police report made the man and his relatives furious and they threatened to kill them.

The man discharged himself from the hsopital and returned to the house where he stabbed the child three times in the chest and the mother in her left hand and underarm.

The girl remains warded at hospital. Her mother was discharged on Tuesday last.
