Police shoots bandit in Arima

One of two men who attempted to rob a bar at the corner of Gordon and Broadway streets in Arima was shot dead yesterday by an off-duty policeman, who at the time, was gambling at a roulette machine in the bar.

According to reports, at about 4.45 pm, PC Manmohan was gambling when two young men one armed, entered the bar and ordered everyone to life on the ground. PC Manmohan who has a licensed firearm, confronted the bandits and was shot at. He drew his weapon and returned fire, hitting one of the suspects who slumped to the floor and died.

The man’s accomplice ran out of the bar and escaped. Police were yesterday reviewing CCTV footage in the hope of identifying the accomplice who remains at large.

At about 7 pm, the body of the unidentified bandit remained at the scene as officers awaited the arrival of the district medical officer.

During this week, police have shot and killed four suspects in separate incidents.
