Dominican Republic national Esther Echavarria Rodriguez, 26, was stabbed to death and her body dumped near an overpass in Chaguanas.

The body was discovered on Monday night by a passer-by.

According to a police report, at about 10 pm, the passer-by was walking along the John Peters walkover near Charlieville when he saw Rodriguez’s body.

Police were called in and the body was later removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James. Investigators said Rodriguez’s passport showed she had a work visa for Aruba.

The visa was given to her for three months from June 30, 2015 to September 29, 2015. When Newsday visited the area where the body was found, residents living nearby said news of the discovery left them in shock.

“Such a young girl to die in such a manner and she was not even from this country. What kind of person would do this,” a resident asked.

Newsday was told that Rodriguez was in Trinidad for sometime working at a guest house in Chaguanas. An autopsy is expected to be performed today.
