Trini bacchanal with The Weekend

Sean Hodgkinson returns to the trinidad + tobago film festival with The Weekend. “The Weekend is essentially a film about what happens when a group of Trinis who have a lot of history decide to spend a weekend together in a beach house in Blanchisseuse,” said Hodgkinson. “It’s what our people love best, comesse and bacchanal.”

The Weekend was produced under Rabid Squirrel Studios, the indie arm of Quirky Films. This project marks Hodgkinson’s fourth time at the trinidad + tobago film festival and his third nomination for the People’s Choice Award, having won previously with A Story About Wendy 2 in 2014.

“We are really proud of everything that we have accomplished with this film,” said producer Aurora Herrera. “We evolved from an idea, to a strategy to shooting 42 pages in three and a half days days with a budget of $17,000 and a cast and crew of 33. Then we got chosen by Caribbean Tales to participate in their film incubator in Toronto and now we are about to finally show our project on home soil. We are proud indeed. Many thanks to TGI Fridays and HADCO for all of their support."

The cast includes well known talents such as Andrew Friday, Chris Smith, Cindy F Daniel, Frances de Lancey and Stephen Hadeed and introduces newcomers David Cogdell, Kealan Branellec, Mark Wallace and Naila King. The cast also includes past muses of Hodgkinson; Ayanna Cezanne, Kia Rollock, and Anokha Baptiste from the films A Story About Wendy and Trafficked.

The Weekend’s World Premiere at the trinidad + tobago film festival is slated for September 20 at 8,30 pm at MovieTowne, Port of Spain, followed by screenings on:

Sept 21, 8.30 pm, MovieTowne Tobago

Sept 24, 9.30 pm, MovieTowne POS Screen 7 Q+A
