Three men held after stealing vehicle

Three men were held by police on Sunday for stealing a vehicle from the PriceSmart carpark in Mausica.

According to a release from the Police Service, the men were held following an exchange of gunfire between officers and four suspects, one of whom managed to escape.

The incident occurred along the Caroni South Bank Road in Las Lomas at about 12 pm on Sunday when officers of the Northern Division Task Force, who were on patrol, received a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen. The officers subsequently spotted and intercepted the vehicle, a green Ford Ranger. Following the shoot-out and arrests, the officers also impounded a gold-coloured Nissan Almera and a silver-grey Nissan B15, in which the suspects were travelling in at the time along Soriah Trace in Las Lomas. The hunt was continuing yesterday for the fourth suspect. A search of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of four rounds of ammunition.

The three suspects including a 36-year-old of Cumuto, a 39- year-old of La Horquetta and a 29-year-old of Arima have since been charged and appeared in the Arima Magistrates courts. Investigations are continuing.
