Dillon welcomes new ship

National Security Minister Edmund Dillon has welcomed the addition of the TTS Nelson II to the Coast Guard's fleet. Dillon expressed this view at a recent ceremony at the Foreign and Caricom Affairs Ministry's headquarters at Tower C of the Port-of-Spain International Waterfront Centre, for the signing of a framework agreement between TT and China. The agreement concerned the provision of a concessional loan agreement for the acquisition of the TTS Nelson II.

Dillon said the vessel's addition to the Coast Guard's fleet was important, given the increased focus on the protection of this country's maritime borders. Foreign and Caricom Affairs Minister Dennis Moses and Chinese Ambassador to TT, Song Yumin, agreed that the agreement was a milestone in the long standing relationship between TT and China. Moses and Yumin expressed their commitment to advancing cooperation in security and other areas for the mutual benefit of both countries.
