Remembering where her love for food stemmed from, coordinator and general manager of "Restaurant Week", Shira Mohammed, welcomed guests to the launch of "Restaurant Week's" fifth annual week-long event at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, yesterday. The event will take place from the 15th to the 24th September but will host a promotional charity fundraiser on 10th September in association with the Rotary Club in Port of Spain. This pre-event will allow patrons to sample different arrays of foods before the actual "Restaurant Week". It is priced at $475 per ticket and 100% of proceeds will go to charity. People trying to acquire tickets can contact the Rotary Club or Pita Pit.

Restaurant Week started with only 19 restaurants but now has 80 and counting as more restaurants continue to go on board the initiative. It seeks for people to enjoy dining at an affordable price. "Aim for perfection and if you do not achieve it then at least you set the bar a little higher" said Jaffa's restaurant owner and chef Joe Brown. His restaurant is one of the many restaurants on the list for the event. He ensured that his staff will seek to provide great service as they believe that restaurant week is very important. He said that it provides a way for bridging the gap between fast food and fine dining as this week is designed was designed as a means for people who do not normally go out to restaurants.

This year, the "Restaurant Week" team launched a mobile application that allows the client to look up the restaurants which are placed alphabetically, that are involved with the project, price list and menu beforehand. Through a filtered search the patron is able to find any restaurant they may want to visit and even be able to keep track of which ones they visited. It is even connected to all the event's social media accounts for easy access so the patron can move easily and functionally throughout the app. Directions to restaurants can also be found within the application. The app can be found on the Playstore Application when one enters "ttrw".

A vegetarian array of dishes has been added to the event's menu specification. Ms. Mohammed emphasized that the event's team listened to all comments given by patrons thus establishing menus vegetarian friendly.

Scotia Bank and Alstons Marketing Company Limited (Amco), platinum sponsors of the event, highlighted their specials during the event they both are both proud to be a part of. Scotia Bank's general district manager, Rory Bhikkarie said that company is offering three percent cash back for card holders during the restaurant week period. AMCO's Business development and spirits manager, Janelle Le Loy said that during this time the company will offer discounts on their spirited drinks at the restaurants. They related how much of an anticipated time this is for them because they truly believe in the event.
