Drill thief sentenced to four months with hard labour

A St James man appeared before a Port of Spain Magistrate on Tuesday charged with stealing a cordless drill from a construction site in Beaumont Ridge, Maraval last Wednesday.

Marlon Sanderson, a labourer, was arrested on Wednesday after the drill, which was reported stolen from the site, was found in his possession.

Sanderson admitted to stealing the drill and said that he did so because he worked as a construction worker himself and needed the tool to perform odd jobs on his own. He has one prior conviction for larceny.

The Magistrate ordered Sanderson to pay a fine of $2,000 for the stolen drill and serve four months with hard labour in prison.
