Carenage man killed in early morning shooting

A 23-year-old man was shot and killed early yesterday morning while liming in St Paul street. According to reports, Hakimeel Harrichand aka 'Bago' of Carenage was last seen sitting at the corner of St Paul street and Block 8 in East Port of Spain sometime before 1 am. Residents reported hearing loud explosions and notified the police.

Officers of the Inter Agency Task Force and the Homicide Bureau Region 1, responded and discovered Harrichand's bullet riddled body lying face down on the ground. He was rushed to the Port of Spain General Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival. Investigators have yet to establish a motive for the killing.

Newsday spoke to relatives who said that in the days leading up to his death, Harrichand said that he felt like 'he was ready to die', but could not say why anyone would want him dead.

In a separate incident, a Diego Martin man was shot and wounded in Farm Road, Diego Martin. According to sources, Wallace Quashie, 26 was liming with friends at around 11 pm when they where approached by a lone gunman who shot Quashie multiple times about the body. Residents notified the police and a group of officers from the Diego Martin police station responded to the scene. Quashie was first taken to the St James District Health Facility but was later transferred to the Port of Spain General Hospital wher he remains in critical condition. Oficers of the Western Division are conducting investigations and have yet to establish a motive for the shooting.
