TT women aiming for regional titles

By KEVIN SUNICH Sunday, August 4 2013

AFTER losing the 50 overs title to Jamaica in 2011, before going down in the final of the T20 last year to the same opponents, Trinidad and Tobago now have their eyes set on claiming the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) double as both tournaments will be played this month in Grenada.

The squad along with the management staff winged out yesterday a confident bunch. They will open their campaign against Barbados tomorrow in the 50-over version.

West Indies captain Merissa Aguilleria will lead the team with spinner Anisa Mohammed as her deputy. Mohammed who was out for a while due to injury has fully recovered and is looking forward to playing her part with the ball.

The team which includes the inform former Windies all-rounder Stacy Ann King is well balanced and is expected to give a good account of themselves.

The squad has been training very hard under the watchful eyes of coach Majorie Thomas and the expectations are very high. West Indies all-rounder Deandra Dottin who played for TT last year has not been included. According to vice-president of the TT women’s Cricket Association (TTWCA) Ann Brown-John, Dottin a native of Barbados did not make herself available for selection.

SQUAD:

Merissa Aguilleira (Captain), Anisa Mohammed (Vice captain), Alisa Mohammed, Amanda Samaroo, Britney Cooper, Gaitri Seetahal, Kamara Ragoobar, Kirbyina Alexander, Lee Ann Kirby, Samantha Bissoon, Selene O’Neil, Shenelle Lord, Stacy Ann-King, Stephanie Ramcharan, Marjorie Thomas (Manager/Coach), John Trumpet (Assistant Coach), Wayne Samuel (Trainer)
