Point Fortin top again in St Patrick’s

By KEVIN SUNICH Monday, May 20 2013

For the third consecutive year in St Patrick, the boys of Point Fortin ASJA Primary School are zonal cricket champions. The ASJA boys got past Point Fortin AC in the semi-final round by 21 runs, thanks to a hat-trick by Khayyam Headley whose brother, Hasim, achieved a similar feat in 2012 against Guayaguayare RC. Renardo Soogrim also took three wickets.

Defending champions Point Fortin made it three titles in two years as they defeated Egypt Village Government Primary by 11 runs in the final of the St Patrick District of the 2013 Atlantic Primary Schools Cricket League on Thursday.

ASJA batting first were bundled out for a mere 58. However, they pulled off the win by routing their opponents for just 47 as only Rickel Ramnarine offered any resistance with 15. Renardo Soogrim was the chief destroyer with four for six while Khayyam Headley had two for nine.

Earlier the Point Fortin boys got past Point Fortin AC in the semi-final round by 21 runs thanks to a hat-trick by Khayyam Headley whose brother, Hasim, achieved a similar feat in 2012 against Guayaguayare RC. He was supported by Soogrim who also had a three wicket haul.

Meanwhile Kellon Monsegue slammed an unbeaten century to lead his team Talparo RC to a crushing 109-run victory over Brazil RC in the North Eastern District.

Batting first, Talparo RC made 180 for five with Monsegue thrilling his fellow students and teachers with a brilliant knock of 114. Brazil RC who had a mountainous task from the start were not up for the challenge and were eventually dismissed for 71.

On female side, Taplaro RC completed a sweep against Brazil as they defeated them by 10 wickets. Brazil batting first crawled to 80 all out and Talparo in reply hit off the runs without losing a wicket in just five overs.
