A powerful spell of four wickets for six runs from Kevin Mohammed handed Nu Iron Limited a well-deserved 46-run win over Phoenix Park Gas Processors Limited (PPGPL) as the Super Industrial Services Super Ten Industrial Cricket League continued at the IPSL Grounds, Point Lisas, on Thursday.

Batting first, Nu Iron were dismissed for a decent total of 92, led by knocks from Akil Mohammed (33) and Peter Squires (19). N Ramdass did most of the damage for PPGPL bagging three for 13 while Vish Ramdass snatched three for 17.

In their turn at the crease, the struggling PPGPL were quickly dismantled for a paltry 46 due to effective spells from Mohammed and Kendell Mohammed (2/14). Phillip Jordan (12) was the only batsman to show some resistance.

For his worthy contribution with the bat, Akil was named Man of the Match. Additionally, Nu Iron’s victory has moved the team up to fourth place in Group “A” and they will now face Arcelor Mittal in their next encounter scheduled for May 23.

Meanwhile at the Plipdeco Ground, an all-round performance IPSL MX’s Rick Ramnarine secured an important 19-run win over PowerGen in this Group “B” clash. The former batted first and were restricted to somewhat low score of 59 for six after their 10 overs. Ramnarine top scored with 18 while A Singh finished on 13 not out. N Asgarali was PowerGen’s best bowler taking three wickets for three runs.

In reply however, menacing spells from Ramnarine (2/7) and Naz Mohammed (2/8) saw PowerGen dismissed for just 40 runs. Andrew York was their top scorer with nine. For his all-round efforts, Ramnarine was awarded with the Man of the Match title.

This was IPSL MX’s second successive victory and they are aiming to continue in good stride as the 2013 edition of the tournament progresses.
