Elite capture Tobago cricket title

Saturday, May 11 2013

SPORT ELITE won the 2013 Tobago Cricket Association (TCA) Two-day title, dethroning C&B who were tournament winners for the past six years.

Elite needing 13 points from their last match against Club Crusoe, managed to get first innings points which was enough to give them the title.

Crusoe batting first at Shaw Park were 87 for two at lunch, but suffered a middle-order collapse and were eventually dismissed for 162 before tea with Jahred Persad falling 13 short of a century on 87.

Elite in reply made 270 for seven declared on the back of half centuries from Jimel Boyce and Dejorn Charles.

Crusoe behind by 108 on first innings made amends in their second reaching 262 for six before the match was called off.

Iraq Thomas was in destructive form as he slammed 177 off just 98 balls to register the highest individual score this season. His blistering knock was laced with 14 boundaries and 14 sixes.

Over at the Bon Accord/Canaan Recreation Ground, Damian Ramsey put in a fine allround performance to lift Georgia to first innings points against Airports Authority.

He scored 84 in his teamís first innings of 193 before he destroyed Authorityís batting taking six for 26 as they were bowled out for 139. Ramsey then slammed an even 100 in the second innings, but, however, time ran out and the match ended in a draw.

At Goodwood, the home team claimed first innings points over Avengers.

The Avengers team protested the first innings result, claiming both teams were bowled out for 100 runs.
