By JONATHAN RAMNANANSINGH Saturday, May 11 2013

KNOCKERS UNITED will clash with Spoilers at the HYO Grounds in Hermitage Village today, when the semi-final stages of the RS Sports Association Twenty20 tournament bowls off at two locations.

Meanwhile, Outsiders and Hillpiece will also go to battle today for a finalist spot at the Metronomes Recreation Ground. Earlier this week, both teams propelled out of the quarter-final stages after securing convincing wins.

An unbeaten knock of 64 from Wayne Singh propelled Knockers United into the semi-final stages when they defeated Oropouche South by a four-wicket margin on Saturday.

Batting first, Oropouche South were led to 162 runs for the loss of eight after their 20 overs. Desmond Mohammed top scored with his knock of 57 while Dinesh Sookram chipped in with 26. Deocharan Seecharan was the pick of the bowlers bagging two for 35 while Vickram Rampersad took two for 43.

In their turn at the crease, Knockers United were valiantly steered to victory by Singh’s stellar contribution. He was assisted by all-rounder Seecharan, who also slammed 23. Finishing with the best bowling figures for Oropouche South was Daniel Ragbir (2/17) and Sanjay Goomansingh (1/32).

Knockers United will now face Spoilers in the semi-final stages which bowl off at HYO Hermitage Village Grounds on Saturday. The latter sealed their semi-finalist spot when they beat D&D Auto Legends by 21 runs.

Spoilers batted first and piled on a hefty total of 136 for five, led by a commanding knock of 75 from Ron Ramnath and Keith Soogrim (23). D&D’s Richard Siewchand took two wickets for 11 runs.

In reply, D&D Auto Legends were restricted to 115 for nine after 20 overs. Deonarine Deyal top scored with 47 while Sookram Jugmohan slammed 25. Prakash Nagessar was the best bowler with figures of three for 16 while Sheran Baptiste snagged two for 19.

SKG will be going up against Commanders (Cedar Hill Recreation Ground); Renegades will meet Sunrees Road (Sunrees Road Grounds); Spoilers clashes heads with Outsiders (HYO Hermitage Village Grounds) and Vijay Sports does battle with Green Rocks (Avocat Village).
