Hillview coach wants Intercol T20 crown

By KEVIN SUNICH Friday, April 26 2013

LEAGUE champions Hillview College will be aiming to claim the 2013 Secondary Schools Cricket League (SSCL) Intercol T20 Tournament to complete the double. The 2010-11 champions will start their campaign on May 2 in the quarter-final of the tournament.

However, head coach Richard Kelly, said it will not be an easy task since they will be without opening batsman Jeremy Solozano who will be with the Trinidad and Tobago four-day team in Jamaica for the regional semi-finals, while Jonathan Hosein is out with a broken finger. “You have to be realistic, while we are aiming to win the title, it will be an even greater challenge without these two players. Everybody will have to pull their weight and dig deep. It would be very nice to win the double, however, you have to be practical as well,”

Solozano played a big role in his team winning the league scoring two hundreds and a half-century in the process. He might have scored more had it not been for a groin injury that kept him out for the last three matches. He also missed a couple of early matches as he was with the PowerGen Secondary Schools team which won an international schools tournament in India.

The head coach said the comforting thing is that in this format, it is anybody’s game.

“Twenty 20 is how you play on the day. Anything can happen in the game, it all boils down to how you play on the day will determine whether you win or lose,”said Kelly.

He said winning the league is definitely a big motivator for the players. “Everybody is still on a high after claiming the league title and the players are going to give their best and try to claim the title despite the loss of the two players,” he declared.

Hillview will look towards Brandon Ramdial, Jesse Bootan, Amrish Rampersad, Shameer Ali and Afdal Khan to put in big performances as they go for their second title this season.
