Jones fires Quash Trace top of F/Pond

By STEPHON NICHOLAS Wednesday, August 29 2012

JERON Jones bagged a hat-trick on Sunday as Quash Trace Back-ah-Yard shot to the top of the Caribbean Welders Fishing Pond Football League with a narrow 3-2 win against last-placed Comparo United at the Fishing Pond Recreation Ground.

The cellar-placed Comparo shockingly took the lead in the first-half through Joseph Dookeran but Jones fired back before the break to restore parity.

The former national Under-17 player broke loose in the second-half, firing in two quick goals to put his team ahead. A free-kick from Kendal Rivers reduced the deficit to just one, but Comparo could not find the equaliser as they stayed winless and bottom of the standings. Also Sunday, Quash Trace Youths got their first points of the season after Xpress Old School reached late for their match.

Meanwhile, action resumes on Friday with the resurgent AC Problems facing Comparo at 2.15 pm. A win for AC Problems will see them take sole possession of first place at least momentarily. At 4.15 pm, Boys Town and the slumping Dream Team square off.

On Saturday, Quash Trace Youths face North Oropouche at 2.15 pm in a desperate battle for points between two teams in the lower half of the table.

Two hours later, defending champion Xpress Overcome taking on Xpress Old School.

On Sunday, Fishing Pond FC face Quash Trace Back-ah-Yard at 2.15 pm while Take That and Cool It and Coca All-Stars play each other in the second match of the doubleheader. Take That and Coca are tied on nine points and both will be keen to pick up maximum points as the race for a top seed for the “Big 8” continues.
