TRINIDAD and Tobago T20 cricket team will have more match practice as they get ready for the qualification for the Champions League T20 tournament slated for South Africa in October.

The “Red Force” as they are called will be part of the International Cricket Festival sponsored by InvesTT Limited, TT national Investment Promotion Agency (IPA).

The three-day tournament runs from August 24-26 at the Queen’s Park Oval. The festival is in commemoration of T&T’s 50th Independence Anniversary.

TT will compete against the Jamaican national team and two All-star teams featuring players from Australia and South Africa. These two teams will be captained by world record holder Brian Lara and TT sports ambassador Darren Ganga.

This is expected to be good match practice for the ‘Red Force’ who are currently on a tour to Miami. They will play Jamaica in two warm-up matches this evening and tomorrow, with both matches playing at the Broward County Regional Park, Miami from 7.30 pm.

The regional T20 champions have been placed in a qualification group of six teams for the last two spots. TT will come up against England’s domestic T20 runners-up and Sri Lanka’s domestic T20 winner in Pool 2.

Pool1 will see Auckland Aces of New Zealand, Sialkot Stallions of Pakistan and England’s domestic winners.

Meanwhile the gold sponsors for the festival have invested some TT$ 400,000. This is one of several events that feature prominently among government-approved initiatives to celebrate this country’s Golden Jubilee.
