WASA FC jump to top spotWednesday, July 4 2012
WASA FC leapt from third place to the top spot in the Blink Bmobile National Super League after Match Day Four action took place on Sunday.
The former Super League kings did not have things easy at the Palo Seco Velodrome against Siparia Spurs.
Glen Walker netted a goal in second half stoppage time to guarantee WASA a 1-0 victory over Siparia who, on the other side of the coin, have lost three of their four matches in their debut season.
The scheduled meeting between Stokely Vale and Club Sando was postponed to August 26, hence a number of teams had the chance to remove Stokely Vale from first place.
Real Maracas, who started the day in second spot, fell to fifth after losing 2-1 to reigning champs Joe Public at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Macoya.
Ex-national forward Andre Toussaint broke the deadlock for Joe Public after three minutes but Michael Alexis equalised in the 12th. The game seemed destined for a draw until Julien Landeau netted the winner in the 86th.
Westside Superstarzs FC got two goals apiece from Qian Grovesnor and Troy Thompson to blank 1976 FC Phoenix 4-0 at the St Anthony’s College Ground, Westmoorings.
Grovesnor found the back of the net in the 34th and 74th minutes while Thompson netted in the 47th and 54th.
FC Santa Rosa earned their first win of the season, after edging fellow debutants Biche United 2-1 at the Biche Recreation Ground.
Jevaughn Vance (38th) and Jovan Rochford (78th) found the back of the net for Santa Rosa while Hayden Alfred (62nd) replied for Biche.
The most exciting game of the day, and the 2012 tournament, occurred at the Youth Camp in Chaguaramas, as Eagles United pipped Defence Force 6-5.
Wayne Monsegue got a hat-trick for Eagles (53rd, 68th and 85th) while Johnathan Marcelle (59th), Ian James (72nd) and Glenwell John (88th) added one each as Eagles overturned a 4-0 halftime deficit.
Samuel Delice scored twice for the point-less Defence Force (ninth and 67th), while other contributions came from Kellon Serrette (sixth), Jamal Goodridge (42nd) and an own goal (36th).
And Match Day Five contests will be held on July 8.
