SIXTH Dan, Sensei Lex Springer and head of the Trinidad and Tobago Karate Federation Referee Council (TTKF-RC) recently passed the American Sport Education Programme (ASEP) Coaching Principles course.

Springer is now the 13th TTKF member to pass the ASEP course. The local karate fraternity has made it mandatory for all coaches and National ‘A’ referees to complete this course to occupy any leadership technical positions in the organisation. Sensei Springer has been in karate over 40 years and is charter member of the TTKF.

A karate referee since the early 80’s, Sensei Springer has represented his country as a competitor and official numerous times. As head of TTKF-RC, he is responsible for setting the standards and preparing all referees for advancement at both local and international levels. He is also a Continental Referee with the World United Karate Organisation (WUKO) and ‘AA’ Referee with the United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) National Karate Programme.
