Defence Force lose all five

Thursday, October 29 2009

“And, at the end of the season, we’ll (the management team) sit down and see what players we can bring in to help the team.”

Baptiste failed in his bid to break Jerren Nixon’s league record of 36 goals (in 2004), as he ended two goals short of the mark. But King lauded the efforts of Baptiste, who was his captain this season.

“When I came in last year, Kerry (played in) midfield and, the system that I played this year, I freed him up in attack because he has good goalscoring qualities and, sometimes, when our backs are against the wall, that’s the guy who’ll bring it out for us,” noted the Joe Public coach.

He expressed his gratitude to his players, the technical staff, the club directors, his family and the fellow Pro League coaches for supporting him throughout a successful season.

“I hope this is a stepping stone for greater things.”

Jabloteh, the dethroned League and Big Six champs, finished in second position, in both categories, got a 24th minute goal from forward Jason Marcano to defeat fifth-placed (in both sections) Ma Pau 1-0 at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

Caledonia AIA, who ended in third spot in the League and fourth in the Big Six, completed Defence Force’s horrendous showing in the last round at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar. Keon Daniel, with a second minute penalty, and Akim Armstrong (80th) found the back of the net for Caledonia, as Defence Force lost all five of their matches in the Big Six.
