Caledonia AIA claimed top spot in the Digicel Pro League after demolishing Police 7-2 in the opening match of the double-header at the Marvin Lee Stadiun, Macoya on Tuesday.

They lead the standings due to a better goal difference over Joe Public who defeated FC South End 1-0.

Excluding the Joe Public-South End encounter, the other fixtures which took place on Tuesday were part of the Round Two Match Day Seven agenda.

Defender Carlyle Mitchell got Joe Public’s lone goal after 19 minutes, with a powerful header past goalkeeper Aquelius Sylvester.

Hours earlier, Caledonia registered the season’s largest victory, against the league’s table-proppers Police.

Veteran Caledonia striker, St Vincent’s Kendall Velox, started the goal-scoring rout in the first minute, while midfielder Kerry Daniel doubled the team’s tally in the 13th.

Todd Ryan, a defender who was deployed as a striker, pulled one back for Police in the 20th but Keyon Edwards (26th) and Velox (45th) gave Caledonia a 4-1 half-time cushion.

Edwards, got Caledonia’s fifth in the 58th, collecting a through ball from Daniel, getting past defender Devon Bristol and hitting home his right-footer, via the fingertips of goalie Anthony Marshall.

Kerwyn “Hardest” Jemmott rolled back the clock to score a fine goal in the 80th, taking a loose ball outside the Police penalty area, waltzing past the advancing Marshall.

Ryan got Police’s second item in the 84th, hitting past goalie Zane Coker after Curt Danclair dummied a right-sided cross from Dwayne Ellis.

Marcus Ambrose ended the scoring in the 89th, as he got a pass from fellow substitute Jemmott, which was well-placed behind defender Jason James, and the midfielder calmly chipped the advancing Marshall.

Ma Pau overtook reigning champs San Juan Jabloteh for third place after whipping Defence Force 3-2 in the latter of back-to-back fixtures at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva.

Trevin Caesar continued his consistent run of form with his ninth goal as the season, which put Ma Pau in the 67th, while captain Lyndon Andrews doubled the scores in the 78th.

Ex-national wing-back Aklie Edwards reduced the deficit for Defence Force in the 83rd but national Under-20 midfielder Kevin Molino restored Ma Pau’s two-goal edge in the 88th.

Balondemu Julius netted Defence Force’s second item in the 89th but it proved to be a little too late.

Jabloteh, who will face Mexican club Toluca in their CONCACAF Champions League Group “B” opener at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, had an early taste of the venue, but they could only muster a 1-1 draw against United Petrotrin.

In the earlier match at Couva, St Ann’s Rangers were held to a 1-1 draw by Tobago United, with Corneal Thomas putting Rangers ahead in the 59th before Tobago’s captain and Guyanese midfielder Kayode McKinnon tied the scores in the 86th.
