ELTON JOHN netted in the 76th minute as San Juan Jabloteh edged Tobago United 1-0, at the Plymouth Recreation Ground, to claim their third straight win in the 2009 Digicel Pro League season.

With Tuesday’s result, Jabloteh, vying for a third title in as many seasons, remain atop the 11-team standings.

Caledonia AIA notched their first win, courtesy of a 2-1 come-from- behind result over Ma Pau at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Arima.

With Trinidad and Tobago coach Russell Latapy in the stands, Keon Daniel made his debut for Caledonia, teaming up with his national compatriot Densil Theobald in the midfield, while another national try-out Radanfah Abu Bakr joined veteran Guyanese Charles Pollard in the central defence.

But the Abu Bakr-Pollard partnership was breached as Ma Pau went ahead on the stroke of half-time.

Substitute Shandel Samuel fed TT utility player Anthony Wolfe who moved past Abu Bakr and, with goalkeeper Zane Coker committed, Wolfe squared the ball to the Vincentian Samuel who tucked into the open net.

Two minutes into the second-half, Caledonia responded courtesy Kerry Daniel, who saw Walter Moore’s left-sided cross hit his knee and wrong-foot Ma Pau’s goalie Shane Mattis.

Keyon Edwards’ winner, in the 49th, was more conventional, as he got a pass from Kendall Velox, rounded the advancing Mattis and hit home, past the desperate lunge of defender Akeem Benjamin.

Due to a traffic pile-up on the Solomon Hochoy Highway, the scheduled double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium began 90 minutes late. Nonetheless, W Connection registered their first win of the season, whipping St Ann’s Rangers 2-0.

Kemuel Rivers opened the scoring in the 79th minute, tapping into an open net after Jonathan Frias’ penalty struck the post. The spot-kick was awarded after Frias’ pass deflected off Richard Santana’s hand.

Frias sealed the win in the 82nd, taking a pass from Igor Santos, getting past Santana’s challenge and hitting beyond the reach of goalkeeper Javan Seegobin.

The night-cap saw Joe Public cruising past South End by a similar scoreline, as Kerry Baptiste carried his goal-scoring tally to five, courtesy of a double (20th and 88th).

Baptiste got things going when he intercepted a back pass, sped past defender Marlon Stoute and goalkeeper Aquelius Sylvester and hitting into the empty net. And the ex-national midfielder headed Hayden Tinto’s cross to secure Joe Public’s second win in the league.

And the evergreen Arnold Dwarika scored twice (41st and 62nd), while his close friend Gary Glasgow (86th) and an own goal from Randy Harris (55th) saw United Petrotrin spank Police 4-0 at the Palo Seco Recreation Ground.
