POLITICAL QUEEN?: San Fernando Corporation CEO Marlene de Coudray now a COP woman....

MARLENE de COUDRAY, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of San Fernando City Corporation and companion of the PNM’s Point Fortin Member of Parliament Larry Achong has finally put to rest weeks of speculation on her political life, declaring that she is ready to do battle on behalf of the Congress of the People (COP) in the November 5 General Election.

She confirmed that she was approached by the leadership of the party to contest the San Fernando West seat now held by incumbent junior trade minister Diane Seukeran who has announced that she will not be running for re-election. Junia Regrello, manager of TCL Skiffle Bunch is being tipped as the PNM’s candidate for the San Fernando West seat.

Speaking to the media on Sunday following the formal opening of the COP’s Oropouche East constituency office at SS Erin Road in Debe, the controversial CEO was earlier dubbed the “new queen of politics” by COP leader Winston Dookeran.

“I am comfortable with the COP and very impressed by the support I’m getting from the ground...it is excellent,” de Coudray said.

“I am ready once called upon. But it is not up to me,” de Coudray stated. “People have been asking me ‘what are you waiting on? We want to see you walking, if you don’t stand up for us who will?’ These are some of the things those on the ground are saying to me.”

In addressing constituents at the opening, Dookeran said: “From today, Marlene Coudray will be known as the new queen of politics.” He later said that he would “love to have her as a candidate.” De Coudray assisted Dookeran in cutting the ribbon to declare the office officially open.
