Manhunt for suspect in fatal stabbing

By ONIKA JAMES Monday, December 29 2008

THE SEARCH is on for the man who fatally stabbed Al Edmond and wounded three of his friends on Saturday.

Homicide officers did not release any information yesterday, however they confirmed that a search is underway for the suspect. Edmond died at the Arima Health Facility on Saturday morning following a fracas outside a bar on the Arouca Main Road.

He and his friends, Kerwin Lucio, Dane Hospedales, and Patrick Holder, were reportedly attacked by a knife wielding stranger a short distance from the La Luna Bar.

Lucio, and Holder were treated and discharged from the Arima Health Faculty while Hospedales is said to be resting comfortably at the Medical Associates Hospital in St Joseph.

Reports yesterday stated that the violent attack allegedly took place after a drinking glass was placed on the hood of a car.

However Kelly-Ann Lucio, the sister of Kerwin Lucio, gave a different version of the events.

“Two guys came to the bar with two girls who were dressed up real sexy. Two fellas who were liming with my brother began harassing the girls, and one of the guys who they came with got vex, and began to rail up. My brother slapped him.

“A short while later all of them calm down, and my brother went to get a drink for the same guy who he slapped. When Kerwin was coming out with the two beers he saw one of the men who was with the girls stabbing Al and that is where the thing start. It had nothing to do with no glass on no car hood.”

Kelly-Ann Lucio described the event as “shocking, and inhumane”.

“What kind of man would take a long knife, and pierce it into the chest of another man. If you had seen the size of that knife.

Al had a big hole in his chest. My brother, when he ran over to assist fell and is so he get seven stab wounds. Dane was stabbed twice in the neck, and Patrick got stabbed in his chest and neck. What kind of human would do something like that?”

Newsday understands that police have already interviewed one of the young women who was accompanying the suspect.

Investigations are continuing.
