EACH councillor in the San Fernando City Corporation has received $10,000 to stage Independence Day activities in their electoral district, San Fernando Mayor Dr Navi Muradali revealed yesterday.

He said the electoral districts within the corporation are Marabella/West, Springville/Paradise, Cocoyea/Toruba, Marabella East, Les Efforts East/Cipero, Marabella South/Vistabella, Les Efforts West/La Romaine, Pleasantville and Mon Repos/Navet.

Speaking at the 25th statutaory meeting of the Eighth San Fernado City Council at council chambers, City Hall, Harris Promenade, the mayor said he would visit each electoral district on Independence Day to see the various events.

Muradali announced that an Independence night fireworks show would be held at San Fernando Hill starting at 8 pm.

Noting that no one would be allowed on the hill, he said onlookers can find a spot around the hill to view the fireworks which is being funded by the Planning Ministry.

“I appeal to all owners of pets and persons who may be affected by loud noises to take the necessary precautions,” Muradali said.

Muradali said to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Independence, a cultural village was hosted at the Southern Academy of the Performing Arts (SAPA) park for three days.

“We provided San Fernandians with a space to enjoy ‘live’ entertainment, food and TT culture,” Muradali said.
