High winds in Chatham, south Trinidad blew off five roofs and damaged two vehicles.

Three houses in North Trace, Cap-de-Ville, on the outskirts of Point Fortin as well as two homes in Belle Vue, Chatham had their roofs torn off shortly after 5 pm yesterday.

Curtis Stuart, a resident of Belle Vue told Newsday, the area suddenly became dark and high winds tore through the area ripping off the roofs.

Heavy rains which accompanied the gusty winds drenched the roofless homes.

At Belle Vue, a garage collapsed damaging two vehicles which were awaiting repairs. Moments after disaster struck, neighbours rushed to the assistance of those affected and helped in putting up tarpaulins to secure the homes.

The Disaster Management Unit of the Point Fortin Borough Corporation visited the area to conduct a damage assessment and render assistance.
