IC head quits UWI post
Friday, June 15 2012
PROFESSOR Ann Marie Bissessar, a member of the Integrity Commission (IC) — which is now involved in court action following a row between the commission’s chairman Ken Gordon and deputy chairman Gladys Gafoor — has resigned as head of the Behavioural Sciences at the University of the West Indies, St Augustine campus.
The resignation, effective June 1, comes a year before the end of Prof Bissessar’s three-year contract with UWI. She assumed the position in 2010 and her tenure was due to end on July 31, 2013. Prof Bissessar gave as the reason for her early departure, the fact that she regarded her appointment a temporary one. It is understood, however, that she had hoped to be made Dean of the Department of Social Sciences but someone else had been selected.
