CABINET’S Finance and General Purposes Committee (FNGP) has asked Works Minister Jack Warner to provide more information on the Programme for Upgrading Roads Efficiency (PURE), Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar disclosed yesterday.

She said Cabinet did not discuss the PURE programme at its weekly meeting on Thursday. However, the FNGP, which met Monday, reported to Cabinet that more information is being requested of Warner’s ministry.

“The FNGP made a recommendation to Cabinet and indicated they were seeking further information from the Ministry of Works,” the PM said.

PURE has been subject to audit and review, amid concern over efficiency of the road-paving programme. Warner has in the past claimed delays in review of PURE were hindering his ministry’s ability to pave roads.
