Cops hold 5 suspects for housebreakingFriday, February 3 2012
SWIFT action by detectives of the Arouca CID between Tuesday and Wednesday morning led to the arrest of five persons, four of whom were caught in the act of breaking into a Trincity house.
Police reports indicate that at about 2.25 pm on Tuesday, officers led by Supt David Abraham and Sgt Ganga Singh of the Arouca CID responded to a call of a break-in at De La Marre Avenue, Trincity.
As officers including PCs Mc Leod and Henry arrived on the scene — they saw four suspects attempting to break into a house. Officers were able to apprehend the four men as they attempted to escape in a white Nissan B12 motor car.
The suspects, aged between 16 and 23 were all said to be from the Chaguanas area. As officers arrested the men, an occupant of the house came outside and identified the four suspects as persons who were attempting to force their way into his house.
While at the scene, the same party of officers were approached by a man who lived down the street and who identified one of the suspects as having robbed him of a silver chain valued at $700 a short while earlier.
The four suspects were arrested and charged for the offences and were due to appear before an Arima magistrate. In a separate incident, at about 1 am on Wednesday, officers on mobile patrol including Sgt Ganga Singh and PCs Paul and Scipio had cause to search a 41-year old man from Windy Hill, Arouca.
A Green Dot cable box, two cellphones and a glucose-testing machine were found in the man’s bag.
Unable to properly account for how he came to be in possession of the items, a trace was performed and officers learnt that the items had been stolen during a break-in in the Arima district on January 29. Investigations are continuing.
