PRIME MINISTER Kamla Persad-Bissessar has extended greetings to the Muslim Community on behalf of the Government and the people of Trinidad and Tobago today — the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

“Assalam-O-Alaikum. May the blessings of Almighty Allah be showered upon you and grace your homes with peace, warmth and love”.

“For Muslims worldwide, Eid is an auspicious festival characterised by a renewal of faith, camaraderie, commitment to family and community and forgiveness of sins and enmity.

Over the past month, during the observance of Ramadan, our Muslim brothers and sisters have honoured their obligation to fast, practice austerity, offer prayers and perform acts of charity,” Persad-Bissesar said.

“Today with the breaking of fast, it is time to celebrate victory over self-control and give thanks for strength, health and the opportunities of life.

The Eid day brings happiness, unity and the knowledge that true joy comes from our ability to alleviate the suffering of our needy brothers and sisters,” she added.

“As we join our Muslim community in observing Eid-ul-Fitr, let us pledge to continue to demonstrate the spirit of tolerance and understanding that rests within the hearts of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.

To our Muslim brothers and sisters it is my prayer that Almighty Allah blesses your home with happiness, your heart with devotion and your soul with purity,” Persad-Bissessar said.
