FERDINAND SMITH captured the first prize in the five-17 age group of the Emancipation Calypso Competition hosted by the National Action Cultural Committee in association with First Citizens at the SWWTU Hall, Wrightson Road, Port-of-Spain. Megan Walrond was the winner of the 18 – 30 age group. Fireball was the winner of the extempo competition, with Asten Isaac (Guidance) placing second.

The results of the competitions are as follows:

five-17 age group

4th place – Emily Allen – Tribute to Drums

5th place – Necoda Francis – No Freedom

6th place – Jerrisha Regis – Play Baba Play

7th place – N’Janela Regis – African Literacy



18-30 age group

1st place – Megan Walrond – Embrace Ilu Lilu

2nd place – Catherine Williams – Me and My Drum

3rd place – Marion Paponette – The Struggle Continues

4th place – Wendell Goodridge – Do You Remember

5th place – Arnold Jordan – Freedom Voices
