THE EDITOR: So the “Man of Action” has leapt into action and landed feet-first upon the most heinous malefactors in the society: the Highway Re-route Movement. The nation stands in shock and awe at the sheer dynamism of the man who is committed to transforming law enforcement in the country. The criminals must be trembling in their shoes! But these protesters are costing the government millions of dollars a day and that must be stopped. After all, criminals are only taking human lives, but this does not have a quantifiable dollar value and thus cannot be given the same level of importance.

One can only hope that at some point in time he will get to the murderers, but in the meantime first things first. His nemesis from a previous incarnation as Minister of Works must be dealt with, and dealt with forcefully. There must be no mistaking his decisiveness in dealing with law and order and if the people don’t agree they can take it to court.

Of course the irony, that he criticised his predecessor in the Ministry of Works for similar actions at the Country Club, escapes him completely. The Maraval roundabout may have brought its temporary benefits but whatever the justification for and success of the action, in the works of a particular court judgment, “if you put your toe over my boundary you trespass as much as if you put your whole body.”

The action that the Minister is challenging the people of this country to take, which of course will cost millions of dollars and take an eternity, is open to the State with its unlimited resources. But that is an option the State is not prepared to risk, preferring to use the heavy hand of the police and the military, and let the people who object find the money to go to court, if they can.

If you don’t like it …
