Send Jack back to old ministry

Saturday, June 30 2012

THE EDITOR: I have lost all faith in the capacity of leaders in TT to secure the rule of law, justice and order in TT. This is because I saw on TV the destruction of the Reroute protest camp at Debe, led by the newly appointed Honourable Minister of National Security and his sidekick minister.

I found it very strange that police officers could be taking orders from a government minister. Is this constitutional? Furthermore, I must ask whether due process of the law was followed in this disgraceful episode. Is our constitution being compromised by this Minister who has time and again given the impression that he is above the law?

One cannot help but feel that the Minister used his newly acquired powers to extract vengeance on the people who stymied his plans for a needless addition to the Pt Fortin Highway project. Anyone who studies these amended plans with its lengthy meandering to UNC strongholds cannot help but think that there may be personal agendas and opportunities cleverly hidden in this project.

It is strange that in a land where people are being openly robbed, where lives are being taken by drunken drivers, where murder victims are being discovered daily, where people live in fear of criminal attack, that the very first act by this new Minister of National Security is to attack people who are merely defending their rights to enjoyment of property. To destroy the camp of a people who are using peaceful demonstration and spiritual fervour to alert government to their plight must be regarded as a most blatant attack on the rural population of this country.

I call on the Prime Minister to send this Minister back to Works where he can finish repairs to Crown Trace and John Street in Montrose.
