THE EDITOR: It is unfortunate that people do not understand animals.

Man is the noblest of animals and has a duty to other animals. In default, sin will be committed according to Islam.

Heavenly bodies such as the sun, moon and stars are for men and the service of men is the goal of lower animals. Even though dogs are useful they are ill-treated even by those who they serve.

Though they protect their masters they are left to feed on the roads. It hurts to see how dogs are treated. It is sad that persons believe that stray dogs must be eradicated. It is a pity because stray or no stray, they are our friends.

Dogs are never vindictive and even when sometimes ill-treated are nonetheless faithful.

Dogs, however, must not be compared to human beings who should not destroy dogs rashly.

Prophet Muhammad (Peace be on him) saw a woman suffering in Hell because she confined a cat and gave it no food, water and let it be free.

The sin of a prostitute woman was forgiven by God when she gave a thirsty dog water.

Treat animals well.
