Just one week after Arnold Hernandez was killed at a shop close to his home on St John’s Road, St Augustine, a man from the same area has been charged with his murder.

Donning tattoos of two teardrops under his left eye, 19-year-old Anthony Pilgrim yesterday stood before Senior Magistrate Indra Ramoo-Haynes charged with the murder.

Hernandez, 23, of Noel Trace, St Augustine, was at a shop on Basanta Trace, when he was approached by a gunman who shot him several times about his body on December 1.

He died on the way to hospital.

On his initial appearance in the Tunapuna First Court yesterday, Pilgrim was informed that the offence for which he is charged was non-bailable.

“You are not entitled to bail,” Ramoo-Haynes said.

Attorney Sean Cazabon, counsel for the accused, questioned the time frame for the appointment of a State attorney to prosecute the matter.

The court prosecutor, who had earlier stated that an attorney from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) would be appointed to the matter, said the file was expected to reach the DPP’s office by the end of the week.

The matter was adjourned to December 18.

Detective Cpl Rennie Katwaroo of the Homicide Bureau charged the accused.
