Craig, Alexis to act as DCPs

Friday, August 10 2012

Head of the Professional Standards Bureau, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Raymond Craig and Simon Alexis, who was previously assigned as the ACP in charge of the Northern and Western Divisions, were confirmed yesterday in the posts of Acting Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCP).

In a release issued yesterday the Police Service Commission (PSC) announced the appointments of the two senior police officers in the acting posts saying this followed a statutory meeting of the commission yesterday.

Craig and Alexis acting appointments took effect on August 7 and concludes on January 31, 2013. The changes were made following the vacancies created by the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Stephen Williams to act as Commissioner of Police (CoP) after the resignations of Canadian Dwayne Gibbs and Jack Ewatski as CoP and DCP, which took effect on August 7.

The acting appointments were made in accordance with the PSC’s constitutional responsibilities as stated in Section 123 (1) (a) of the Constitution and Legal Notice No: 103 of 2009.

Newsday understands the PSC chose Craig and Alexis based on the seniority of the two officers. Alexis was due to proceed on pre-retirement leave in November while Craig was to proceed on leave mid-next year.

It remained unclear yesterday if Alexis will still proceed on pre-retirement leave based on his promotion.

Newsday also understands Government will be putting out tenders for a recruitment company to take up the responsibility of finding a new CoP and two DCPs as early as next February.

Newsday understands several local senior police officers have expressed interest in applying for the posts when they are advertised.
