Two men were held with a home-made shotgun in Freeport on Saturday last.

Police reported that at about 10 am on July 7, Constables Ali and Sarran of the Freeport Police Station were on mobile patrol in the Freeport district, when, acting on information received, intercepted and searched a motor vehicle travelling along Tewarie Circular Road, South Freeport.

The vehicle was occupied by two young men aged 21 and 23 from Arena Road Freeport.

A home-made shotgun was found in the car.

Both men were then arrested and charged by PC Ali, and are expected to be brought before a magistrate today.

In an unrelated incident, on Friday, an anti-crime exercise was conducted in the Morvant District between 4 am and 3 pm by officers of the Morvant Police Station, Morvant CID, North Eastern Division, Mounted Branch, Traffic Wardens and officers of the Licensing Department.

The exercise was co-ordinated by Senior Superintendent Lewis and Inspector Ramlogan.

Twenty-three persons were arrested, 15 on outstanding warrants, three for traffic offences, and five robbery-related offences. Sixty-three fixed penalty tickets were also issued.

The exercise was part of the continuing zero tolerance policy in the division to crime.
