A 27-YEAR-OLD journalist and a security guard are expected to appear before a Tunapuna magistrate later this week charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition. Both men are out on bail, having appeared in court in May to answer several serious criminal charges including armed robbery and impersonating a police officer.

Police reports stated that at about 5.30 pm on Sunday, the former journalist entered an apartment occupied by the security guard on Meade Street, Tunapuna. While in the apartment, a party of police officers entered, saying they were acting on information and came to search the apartment.

Following the search, officers found a .380 semi-automatic pistol with eight rounds of ammunition. Four 12 Gauge cartridges and one spent 12 Gauge cartridge were also found in the apartment. The two were taken to the Tunapuna Police Station where they were questioned and are expected to be placed on several identification parades before being charged.
