East police in major exercises

Saturday, June 30 2012

A TOTAL of fifty-five road traffic tickets were issued on Wednesday by officers of the Arima Police Station during a police road block exercise in the Valencia district. The exercise which was spearheaded by ASP Aroon Ramkalawan and Insp-

ector Jugmohan took place between 10 am and 1.30 pm. One man was also arrested for possession of a weapon and for assaulting a police officer.

The exercise was said to be part of the TT Police Service’s continuing zero tolerance policy against crime and was held on the same day that Eastern Division police held similar exercises.

Police said between 5 am to 9 am, Eastern Division officers comprising members of the Task Force, CID and Traffic personnel conducted a massive exercise in the Biche/Plum Mitan district which included raids, house searches and roadblocks.

At 7.30 am, a white Nissan B15 was stopped and searched and a quantity of cured marijuana was found. The 26-year-old male driver from Cane Farm Village, Arouca for whom there was an outstanding warrant, and another male occupant aged 30, of Don Miguel Road, San Juan were jointly charged by PC Nazim Hosein for possession of marijuana.

At 4.45 am while on the said exercise, officers acting on information journeyed a mile into the Biche forest and came upon a 51-year-only man tending to a quantity of dried cured marijuana. He was arrested and charged by PC Richi Solozano for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, ten persons were arrested for warrants in the Sangre Grande district by warrant officers led by Sgt Harridath Sookdeo.
