Every year, in its World Communications Day message, the church incisively appraises the communication technology and its impact on culture, stressing always the positive over the negative, offering encouragement to digital natives and calling everyone to make the best use of the media. This year is no different.

Police say petrol was used to start a fire in a house in Derby, with the blaze originating below the letterbox. Two people – a man and a woman – have been held for questioning separately in connection with the incident which took the lives of six children. Five of the children died in the blaze while the sixth died later in hospital.

By calling children slow learners or duncy, others abnormal, and colour coding others criminals are grossly unfair judgments of innocent people.

Though I have treated the issue of same sex marriage in this Sunday Woman´s Weekly, I´d like to use this space to respond specifically to the anti gay rights sentiments expressed by Anjuman Sunnat-Ul-Jamaat (ASJA) president general, Haji Yacoob Ali, who last week came out openly against homosexuality.
