|Digicel Carnival burn goes South |
Tuesday, January 28 2014
San Fernando was flooded by a big wave of keep-fitters who gathered for the first Digicel Carnival Burn last Wednesday.
Hundreds of fitness fanatics — from toddlers to the elderly — turned out at Skinner Park to experience the first Burn and get their bodies ready for Carnival 2014.
Guided by the Long Circular Club instructors, the large crowd embarked on a one-hour long aerobics session where “hard work” and “fun” were the common denominators.
This year Digicel has introduced a new feature to the Burn — the Couples’ Weight Loss Challenge. This challenge attracted 25 couples whose weight and fitness levels will be checked on a weekly basis to determine the winning couple who will go home with prizes such as Carnival costumes, Nokia handsets and tickets to the Digicel International Groovy Soca Monarch Finals.
Following the success of the Port-of-Spain Burn, soca artiste and new Digicel endorsee Swappi made a guest appearance, much to the delight of the crowd who sang along with him while going through their paces.
Digicel’s partners, Grace Nourishment, Aloe Vera Drink, Gatorade, Blue Waters and Dannon were at hand not only to hydrate the keep-fitters but also to reward them for their energy and creativity.
This was the case for Bridgette O’Garro, rewarded with a case of Dannon yogurt for her very creative t-shirt and Kervin Lezama whose great vibes won himself a case of Gatorade. Among the other prizes donated were Digicel-branded items, Grace hampers and a Nokia 520 which was presented to Melissa Solomon whose energetic workout did not go unnoticed.
